Louis Vuitton offers new monogram service

November 6th, 2008, 12:00 pm · Post a Comment · posted by Candice Shih, Staff Writer

If you get started early on your holiday shopping, now would be the time to consider Louis Vuitton’s new monogram service.

With the Mon Monogram program, which started in late October, shoppers can customize one of two handbags and have them made and delivered from France. Shipping generally takes less than four weeks but could take up to eight.

The South Coast Plaza boutique is one of just three in the nation - including Beverly Hills and New York - that is offering the service. Sales associates assist customers at a computer station where there are mix-and-match swatches.

Shoppers can choose between the Speedy 30 and the larger Keepall Bandouliere 55 handbags. Customization includes up to three characters, a choice of placement and type of stripe, and two choices among 16 colors.

“(The Speedy) is so extremely popular but this makes yours very different,” said store director Bill Peters. “It’s taking an icon and making it individual.”

The Speedy regularly costs $700 and runs $975 with the monogram. The Keepall is $1,270 without the customization and $1,640 with.

Because the customized bags aren’t made until they are ordered, Louis Vuitton won’t customize the ones you have already.

The company has previously added monograms to its hard-sided luggage pieces but not its handbags.
